Capital of Portugal since 1255, Lisbon is a lively cosmpolitan city with approximately 1 million inhabitants. It is the most important city in the country and is situated in the most western part of Europe, by the biggest river in Portugal. By night, it is worth visiting the typical districts such as Madragoa and the Barrio Alto and go into a "fado" house (national songs accompanied by portuguese guitar). To visit: Monasterio de los Jeronimos (16th century, Renaissance and Manuelino style), Centro Cultural Belem and its tower, Castillo de Sao Jorge (12th century) where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city and the River Tajo, A Se (cathedral, 12th century), Parque das nacoes and Oceanario (Expo 98).
