Ten dedicated members of the Interhome Group from six different countries embarked on a train journey to Klagenfurt, Austria. Their mission was to deepen their understanding of biodiversity and to engage in voluntary work.

As part of our week of biodiversity and sustainability education in Carinthia, we visited the Hribar family in the mountains above the Trögener Kamm to learn about establishing permaculture gardens. We prepared the ground and laid the foundation for planting new flora in spring 2024.

The next day, we hiked up the mountain to plant 50 saplings. We chose five assorted species to create a diverse and climate-resistant woodland. Additionally, we erected a fence to shield them from deer and stag intrusions. Although the challenging terrain left us sweating, we appreciated our triumphs and looked forward to their imminent growth.

Our time in Carinthia was an inspiring week of biodiversity and sustainability education. Ten more colleagues will join us in spreading the message of sustainability within Interhome Group after this trip, with the hope that many more will follow.

During our volunteering activities, we took on meaningful projects to support the park's facilities. We constructed a shelter with tables and benches, designed to accommodate children's programs, and we also painted the tables to ensure their durability in the park's environment. Additionally, we dedicated our efforts to clearing a 2-kilometre hiking and biking trail, removing weeds, non-native plants, and thorny branches that obstructed the path. These tasks allowed us to actively contribute to the park's maintenance and conservation efforts. Alongside our volunteer work, we had the opportunity to participate in an informative park tour, which deepened our understanding of its ecological significance.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the park's skilled staff members, namely Glòria, Sònia, and Aleix, whose invaluable support and collaboration played an integral role in our volunteering endeavor. Our commitment to environmental conservation and protection remains unwavering, and we eagerly anticipate returning to the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà in the future, as well as exploring other exceptional parks.

Given the park's close proximity to our local service offices in Empuriabrava and Roses, we are delighted to inform our clients about the extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in the splendor of nature at this remarkable location.
